The 2013 Mark Twain Award was awarded to U.S. Poet Laureate (2004-2006) Ted Kooser at the just-completed 2013 Annual Symposium.

For distinguished contributions to the study of Midwestern literature, SSML presented the 2013 MidAmerica Award to William Barillas of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the 2013 Annual Symposium.

Nominations for both awards in 2014 are due on July 1, 2013, to Roger Bresnahan.
