SSML Annual Writing Prizes
Each year SSML sponsors several prizes:
The David Diamond Student Writing Prize
The Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Prize
The Paul Somers Prize for Creative Prose
Entries must have been presented at the SSML Annual Symposium, must never have been published or committed for publication, must be original, and must have a demonstrable Midwestern character (e.g., topic, theme, tone, imagery, as appropriate to genre).
Winning entries will be published in the following year's volume of MidAmerica. For each entry, 4 blind copies should be provided (i.e., your name should not appear on the title page or on page-headers).
Details of the contests are distributed with the Symposium program. You must have been present at the Symposium to enter.
The entry form from the current Symposium program, together with the four copies, may be left at the registration desk at the Symposium or mailed to Marilyn J. Atlas, SSML Prize Coordinator, 230 North Roosevelt Avenue, Bexley, OH 43209.
The deadline is June 15. For further information please contact Marilyn Atlas, prize coordinator.
